Andy Rollins Supports NMH with a Planned Gift to Honor His Son, Marc

Andy Rollins gives to Northfield Mount Hermon to honor his late son, Marc, who was a member of the Class of 1991 but tragically passed away during his senior year. A beautiful Homestead Elm tree now sits across from Schauffler Library in memory of Marc’s legacy at NMH.
As a student, Marc took advantage of all NMH had to offer. He loved photography and videography, but above all else, Marc adored the social aspect of boarding school life. He was extremely well-liked and had a wonderful ability to listen. “NMH was transformative for Marc,” Andy says. “Even though he passed away before graduation, Pam (Andy’s late wife and Marc’s mother) and I could see Marc blossom. He was truly happy at NMH, and it brought out the best in him.”
To ensure that NMH remains a place that empowers students to find their best selves, Andy has established a charitable gift annuity (CGA) with the school. “The interest rate offered was well beyond that of a CD, treasury bond, or money market fund,” he notes. “NMH was already included in my estate plan, so I considered a CGA as giving some of my assets to NMH early.”
Andy made his gift through a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from his IRA, which applied to his annual required minimum distribution. “A QCD is also a great tax-efficient and cost-effective way to support NMH,” he says.
Andy hopes others will join him in making a gift to NMH. “When it came time to think about my estate plan, I wanted to make a difference at NMH, because NMH made a difference in Marc’s life,” he says. “I hope that future generations of NMH students will sit under Marc’s tree and share a laugh or simply gaze upon the beautiful scenery and listen to the sounds of campus. What a fitting tribute to our son that would be.”
